Made entirely by hand and artistically painted, the miniature depicts Jean-Joseph d'Hautpoul (may 13, 1754 - february 14, 1807) - a General, Senator, descendant of the old French family of d'Hautpoul, who had a century-old tradition of military service.
During the Napoleonic wars, Jean-Joseph was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General of heavy cavalry. He died in 1807 at the battle of Preisisch-Eylau, leading an attack of 7,000 cuirassiers on Russian infantry attacking Napoleon's headquarters.
