Made entirely by hand and artistically painted, the miniature depicts a Sergeant of the 1st carabinier regiment of the French heavy cavalry. The 1st carabinieri regiment of the French heavy cavalry was part of Napoleon's elite cavalry units. In 1812, the uniform of the carabinieri regiments consisted of white uniforms with blue trim, steel cuirasses with copper plating, and brass helmets with a red hair plume on the crest.
The regiment was commanded by Colonel Baron Francois Laroche. The regiment was part of the 4th heavy cavalry (cuirassier) division of divisional General count Jean-Marie Antoine Defrance.
